For us Christians, prayer is an integral part of our lives. Apart from that, there’s also the matter of doing everything holy in the Lord’s name. One excellent example is reading the Bible. Reading the Bible gives us an insight into how the people revere the Lord or how the Lord opens up to His people.
Many biblical figures were in God’s good graces, such as King David. David is believed to have authored the Book of Psalms, composed of sacred songs offered by him to the Lord.
In this article, we will be discussing some of the various verses relating to David’s and the Psalms’ presence in the Bible. May this serve as a guide back to His Word, as well as a good foundation for meditation and more profound prayer:
#1: “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.” – Psalm 19:14
Throughout the chronicles of David in the Bible, it’s well known that he wants to do nothing but to please the Lord.
For our Lord, the heart is what matters and not physical appearance. When the Lord sees a person of pure heart, it means that they are humble and committed. In other words, a person with a God-fearing heart is sure to be blessed by the Lord.
#2: “For this is what the High and Lofty One says—He who lives forever, whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.” – Isaiah 57:15
David knew the importance of his heart to the Lord. He always did everything per the Lord’s will. Because of this, he was called a man after God’s own heart,
#3: “One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek {contemplate, inquire, meditate on} Him in His temple.” – Psalm 27:4
Again, David had his heart set on nothing else but to do the Lord’s bidding and to proclaim His truth. He knew that everything started with the intentions that he put in his heart.
Apart from King David, other figures in the Bible spoke of singing praise to the Lord, such as St. Peter.
#4: “Pleasing meditations bring music to the joy of the Lord to our hearts. A glorious (unspeakable) inexpressible joy, which comes from believing in Him. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in Him and you rejoice with a glorious (unspeakable) joy.” – 1 Peter 1:8
The verse is pretty straightforward: St. Peter says that believers, regardless of seeing the Lord or not, are filled with joy from simply singing praises to Him.
5: “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be always pleasing in Your sight, O LORD. Help me to allow the word of Christ to dwell richly in my heart. That I might apply my heart to Your knowledge, to keep Your words ever ready on my lips. Create in me a clean heart, O God, Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, O Lord, open my lips, that my mouth may declare Your praise. Let my heart song be heard and seen, pleasing in Your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer. Jesus my strength; Jesus my song.” – Psalm 51:10,12,15
Going back to the Book of Psalms, the passages state in a hopeful manner that the praises and meditation done in the name of the Lord are more than enough for Him. As a closing statement, the name of Jesus Christ is mentioned, which predicts the coming of the Messiah.
Conclusion
Singing praises to the Lord is a great way to worship him, as evidenced by the Book of Psalms. Just remember to do everything with your heart in the right place so that blessings will follow. Seek meditation, pray sincerely, and love wholly—all these can help you feel closer to not only God but yourself.
